Ellsworth vs. Prescott boys basketball showdown tonight
It’s been a contest worth waiting for.
Originally scheduled for Jan. 7 but cancelled due to the polar vortex, Ellsworth and Prescott’s boys’ basketball finally meet on the hardwood tonight in Ellsworth. Tip-off is at 7:30 p.m.
While missing scheduled games due to the weather can be frustrating, they can also turn out to be lucky break as well. EHS head coach Corey Enberg said the Panthers are in a better place as a team now than back then. The Purple are coming off two big wins last week, Baldwin-Woodville 72-62 and Pine City, Minnesota 90-31.
“Our confidence is up because we’re playing together as a team,” Ellsworth head coach Corey Enberg said. “With both teams playing very well right now, it should be an excellent basketball game.”
Indeed, Prescott hasn’t lost since Dec. 17 against Eau Claire Regis and is still undefeated in Middle Border Conference play at 7-0. Ellsworth has a 5-1 league record, 6-4 overall while Prescott is 12-2.
Center Will Huppert is back at 100 percent in the EHS line-up and it’s shown as he’s scored in double figures the past three ballgames. Prescott will have to find a way to stop the Panthers inside-outside game to win this evening.
“When we play good team basketball we can get scoring and defense and outside now with Will in the line-up,” Enberg said. “But Will is also proving a lot of emotion and leadership as well to the team.”
Prescott is also solid inside and out. Charlie Tayson leads the Middle Border Conference in rebounding averaging nearly seven per game and PHS’s Clay Seifert leads the league in assists with five per game.
