SOMERSET - A total of eight wrestlers from Pierce County made it through the WIAA Division 2 Somerset Individual Sectional Saturday to the state meet next weekend.

Ellsworth's has seven of them while Prescott has one lone qualifer. That's Troy Urman who made it at 145 pounds. After losing his semifinal match to Amery's Mitch Nichols by a 9-2 decision, Urman came through the wrestlebacks by pinning Barron's Lane Elliott in 3:01, then beating Chetek-Weyerhaeuser/Prairie Farm's Johnny Chamberlain by a 6-5 decision to take third.

The Panthers' state contingent will be led by three-time sectional champion Jens Lantz, as he tech. falled Neillsville/Greenwood/Loyal's Jared Boon 23-8 in the 120 pound finals. He pinned both his first round and semifinal opponents in matches that didn't get out of the first period. Logan Kemmerer also won first place with dominating performance in the 152 finals, beating Medford's Aaric Spencer 10-0. Gabe Frandsen then followed up Kemmerer win by beating St. Croix Central's Cody Nyhagen 3-0 in the finals at 160.

Also going to state for the Purple is John Albardo, who took third after winning 2-0 over Rice Lake's Cole Paulson at 106; Brad Cain at 126, who decisioned Prescott's Alex Stuhl 3-0 to place third; Tristan Mueller took second at 132, pinning Sage Soppa of Abbotsford/Colby in 4:42 in the third place match then beating Amery's Bennett Paulson 8-2 in the wrestleback; Jake Murphy lost to Austin Egge of Hayward 3-2 as he became the school's first-ever sectional champion at 195 pounds. But with a semifinal win over Ashland's Nate Weaver 6-5, Murphy second place was secure as Weaver finished third.

Three first places and a second made EHS the unofficial team champs with a whopping 125.5 points, well ahead of second place Amery's 96.5, as the individual wrestling outcome followed that of the team sectional outcome. St. Croix Central was third with 64 points.

Ellsworth had 11 competitors at the meet. Also competing were Dan Langer, who lost back-to-back matches at 132 pounds to state qualifiers Bobby LeRoy of Somerset and Neillsville/Greenwood/Loyal's Michael Chadwick by 7-3 and 4-0 scores respectively. Hank Holdorf lost to Abbotsford/Colby's Zach Peissig 4-2 in overtime and did not get a wrestleback as Peissig lost in the semifinals at 170. Brady Zimmer was also beaten in the first round as he was pinned by Black River Falls's Dillan Bunde in 3:44 at 220 and Brodey Kemmerer lost a close semifinal match at heabyweight 2-1 to Medford's Nick Berger and was pinned by Osceola's Thor Reimer in the wrestlebacks.

Prescott saw it's share of close losses and missed chances at state as Stuhl lost to Cain 3-0 and finished fourth at 126. Nick Opdahl also finished fourth for the Cardinals as Chadwick beat him 7-0 at 138. Sam Hoopingarner at 106, Bailey Langer at 120 and Tyler Miller at 182 were all beaten in the first round.
