Ellsworth wins first MBC dual meet, Prescott falls

Both of Pierce County's Middle Border Conference prep wrestling teams began their seasons Thursday with conference dual meets.

No.2 Ellsworth was big 69-7 winner over Somerset at home while Prescott was beaten 49-13 at New Richmond.

EHS started out with four forfeits at 195, 200, 113 and 120 pounds and then added pinfalls from Kenny Stowe at heavyweight;  Sawyer Strom at 103, John Alabarado at 126, Riley Melstrom at 132, Brad Cain at 138. Trsiten Mueller at 145 and Gabe Frandsen at 160.

Josh Hines also won for the Panthers, taking an exciting and intense match with the Spartans' Logan Peterson 8-5.

The Spartans' lone wins were at 182 to start the match with Gabe Praschak's major decision and a win for Gage Kreucher at 170.

New Richmond won three key matches in the middlewieght from 132 to 145 pounds to solidifiy their win over Prescott. 

In those three wins, the Tigers scored 13 points to add to a 21-9 lead after PHS's Paul Hansen defeated NR's Seth Leavens 13-8 at 126. 

Other winners for Prescott were Sam Hoopingarner at 106 and Troy Urman at 152 by an 11-3 score at 152 pounds.

Ellsworth will be at Baldwin-Woodville for their next MBC dual meet next Thursday while Prescott will host Osceola.
