Ellsworth woman launches graphic design business

Liz Smith loved art as a child.

“It was huge for me,” the Diamond Bluff native said. “It provided me with a creative outlet.”

The love resulted in a degree from Brown Institute in Minneapolis and a career in the graphic design field for nearly the last 20 years.

A freelancer for most of that time, Smith decided to focus on it entirely, as she recently started Firefly Design LLC.

“My customers’ satisfaction is always my top priority,” she said.

Throughout the years, Smith has designed products for business cards, letterheads, brochures, fliers, postcards, invoices, publications, thank you cards and announcements.

She also has worked on the Ellsworth, Baldwin and Prescott Chambers of Commerce Visitors Guide for Helmer Printing.

“The demand is still there for print,” she continued, fighting the stereotype everything is online.

“When it’s in your hand, it’s legitimate, professional. People won’t forget about it, whether it’s in your purse, hanging on your wall, kitchen table or wallet.” Not to discount the internet, Smith mentioned web design is part of her expertise as well.

Smith will work out of her home, east of Ellsworth, which makes for an easy start to the day. She and husband Chuck are the parents of four school-age children.

“I can set up my own hours,” she explained. “I can be flexible so I can focus on each individual client…I really enjoying networking and meeting people. It’s so much fun.”
