Elmwood, EPC diamond squads take on Alma/Pepin
ELMWOOD - The Elmwood baseball and the Elmwood/Plum City softball teams played close contestes against Alma/Pepin Thursday.
Elmwood's baseball team lost 3-2 to the No. 8 ranked Eagles. A/P was able to break a 2-2 in the top of the seventh inning. Winning pitcher Cole Carroll hit an RBI double and teammate Logan Carroll also hit a double while Brody Olson had two hits. Elmwood was led at the plate by Levi Wolf's two hits, including a double. David Rhy hit an RBI-double for the Raiders. Logan Wolf took the loss but he struck out six in a six-hit performance. All of the Eagles' runs were earned. Elmwood will get another shot at Alma/Pepin this Tuesday in Pepin to try and clinch a tie for the D-SC Small title.
EPC's softball team fell short in its bid to win the Dunn-St. Croix title after losing the first game of a doubleheader against No. 4 ranked Alma/Pepin 2-0. However EPC knocked off A/P in the second game 5-2. Taylor Chilson and Heidi Webb both had two hits for EPC and Webb drove in two runs. Winning pitcher McKayla Brunner struck out six in a four-hitter. It's the second top-ranked team the No. 20 EPC has beaten this week as they knocked off No.3 Elk Mound on Tuesday.
The EPC softball team hosts Spring Valley Tuesday in a WIAA Division 4 regional semifinal contest.
