Elmwood man cited after car, cycle chase
Ellsworth Wisconsin 126 S. Chestnut St. 54011

Whenever the Spring or Fall Flood Run occurs, expect the unexpected.

And this year's Spring Flood Run, which occurred April 19, included at least one notable development.

However, the unpredicted didn't happen along the Mississippi River.

According to an accident report supplied by the Pierce County Sheriff's Department, Nathan Zignego, 21, Elmwood, left the Waverly Bar parking lot around 5:51 p.m. that day. Zignego backed out of a parking stall and ran into a motorcycle owned by Robert M. Raehsler of Ellsworth.

Raehsler happened to see the accident, chased the other vehicle down and let Zignego know he saw it.

Instead of stopping, Zignego continued down the road, dragging Raehsler along with him. Raehsler suffered injuries to his left arm as a result.

Fellow motorcyclists saw what took place and started chasing the vehicle, trying to get a license plate.

They eventually did and alerted the sheriff's department. At the same time, Zignego called the sheriff's department and said he was being followed.

Sheriff's deputies arrived and arrested Zignego on a charge of operating while intoxicated and operating while intoxicated with a blood alcohol content greater than .1 percent. He was released.

Zignego was also cited for hit and run of an unattended vehicle, which he was formally charged with last week. He faces his first court appearance at 9 a.m. Monday, June 9.

Prior court records show Zignego has had a history of traffic related crimes. In 2006, he pled guilty to reckless driving to cause bodily harm, while in 2005, he was found guilty of speeding twice in St. Croix County. Other crimes include placing a loaded firearm in a vehicle and failure to obey traffic officer's signal.
