Elmwood outlasts Plum City for a 41-39 win

Josh Pax looks for someone to pass to underneath the basket.1 / 2
Chase Luebker goes strong to the basket.2 / 2

ELMWOOD - Elmwood's defense held Plum City almost scoreless for the final quarter of their boys' basketball game Friday and pulled out a 41-39 win at home.

The Raiders trailed 33-31 heading into the final eight minutes but eventually started to make the high percentage shots they were getting down low and used their depth to ware down the Blue Devils. Plum City did not make their first basket of the quarter until the :32.5 second mark.

Still PC competed right to the very end. A steal and lay-up by Alex Gilles made the score 39-37 and the Devils stole the ball again on their full court press. But Elmwood quickly forced a turnover in the melee of back and forth action and the Raiders' Josh Pax was fouled. He sank two free-throws to put the game away.

Pax had 10 points and Kyle Webb led EHS with 11. Gilles had 13 points for PC and Chase Luebker scored 12.

Elmwood and Elk Mound are tied for second in the D-SC standings at 8-4. Plum City is tied with Spring Valley for fourth at 7-4 after Valley failed to knock-off Colfax from atop the league standings Friday in a 66-56 loss. The Vikings are a game and half a ahead with a 9-2 record.
