ELMWOOD--The Elmwood Village Board heard from resident Keith Bernhardt earlier this month.

Bernhardt expressed concern for the large pine tree located in the right-of-way on May Avenue next to his property in the village. He would have liked to have been contacted about the plan to remove the tree.

The board reassured him no plans to cut down the tree were in place. They also advised an expert will be evaluating the health of the tree and nothing would be done if the tree was free of disease.

Bernhardt said he is building a pole barn and would like to use the wood if the tree were indeed cut down. The board agreed to contact him if any plans were made.

A picnic license and a temporary operator’s license were approved for the annual Elmwood Rod and Gun Club Picnic.

A new personnel policy was approved and the board acknowledged the work done by Trustee Susan Dzubay on the changes.

Greg Olson from the Wisconsin ATV Association and Larry Johnson from Pierce County ATV Club talked with the board about helping village officials establish a route into and out of the village for ATVs. A lot of options were brought up and discussed, but it was decided the matter would need further research. No action was taken.

Approval was given for a resolution authorizing the signature on a safe deposit box. Village President William Stewart, Clerk Amy Wayne and Angela Fisher are now authorized to access the village safe deposit box.

Trustee Brian Buck reported the finance committee confirmed the preliminary budget was on schedule. Committee members also reviewed increases to the health insurance premium.

Dzubay indicated plaster is coming off the wall in the women’s bathroom and would need to be looked into in the future.

Buck reported the old police squad was sold for $1,700 and the money was being used to purchase additional equipment: a brush guard, spotlight and camera for the new squad, and a new vest for Officer Petrasko.
