EPC can make it four county teams in playoffs with win

Call it a playoff to get into the playoffs.

If Elmwood/Plum City wins Friday's game at Clayton they will do no worse than 3-3 in the Lakeland South Conference and should get a bid to the WiAA Playoffs as they did last year with a similar record. That would make it four Pierce County teams with playoff berths.

Of course EPC would still be able to clinch a bid the following week but they would prefer not to have to go into a ballgame against the state's No. 5 ranked team in Division 7 in undefeated Alma/Pepin in th elast game of the regular season with so much at stake. Better to do so against a more evenly-matched Clayton squad. Both teams are 3-4 overall.

To beat the Bears EPC will have to stop their leading rusher James Hoffman, who has nearly 600 yards this season. He's also second in the league in rushing touchdowns.

"To be a playoff team we need to play more consistent on defense," Hannack said. "We can't let them drive up and down the field on us. We stop Hoiffman and we have to stop them on third downs. And to do all that we can't have blown assignments or coverages or get pushed around up front."

EPC's Levi Wolf is doing a little leading of his own in the LSC stats. He's second only behind Turtle Lake quarterback Tanner Arnold in passing yards 835 and he's second in rushing yards only beind Alma/Pepin's Trevor Heit with over 600.  teammate Bryce Bock is fourth in the league in rushing with over 400 yards while Alex Boyer is second in the LSC in receiving yards with over 400 as well.

Spring Valley steps out of conference to take on Minnesota charter school Spectrum at Williams Stadium in Menomonie. Like EPC, SV will have to wrap up the regular season next weekend vs, a ranked team, No. 4 Glenwood City. The Middle Border Conference title is still up for grabs as Ellsworth hosts Osceola and Prescott is at Durand. The Cardinals have not beaten Durand since 2008 and have not won in Durand since 2005. No. 3 ranked EHS can clinch a tie for the league title with a win for the first time since 1999 and just for the fourth time in school history.
