Esther E. Lamon, 94

Esther Elizabeth Nelson Lamon, age 94, of Elmwood, died Monday, June 9, at the American Lutheran Home in Menomonie. She was born Sept. 17, 1919, in the Township of Spring Lake, rural Spring Valley, the daughter of Gustave and Inga Terina (Thompson) Nelson. Esther graduated from Elmwood High School in 1937, and married George Arthur (Art) Lamon on April 18, 1942, in the Spring Lake Lutheran Church. They lived on the family farm on Farm Hill all of their lives where they raised their family, and attended Elmwood United Methodist Church.

During her life, Esther was a life-long member of the Order of Eastern Star, was involved in the Elmwood United Methodist Church with United Methodist Women and singing in the Adult Choir. She was also an active member of the Farm Hill Homemakers Club. As an enthusiastic Packers fan she watched many Packers games and also enjoyed baseball and basketball games.

Her travels included trips to Kansas City for family and weddings, Chicago for family and weddings, Washington, D.C. for OES in 1952, where they were escorted through the U.S. Capitol by Senator Adlei E. Stevenson; visited Colorado Springs where her granddaughter took her up in a Cessna plane for a ride, the State of Washington; Canada and nearby states for snowmobiling; to Arizona to visit her brother and sister-in-law; to Virginia and Pasadena, California, to relocate a granddaughter and see the Rose Bowl Parade and Football Game, Grandma-pro tem to San Francisco, California, and then on to Hawaii to visit, returning from Hawaii she flew to Los Angeles to Dallas, to Miami then drove back visiting a high school classmate in Pensacola, and a cousin in Georgia, then to Elmwood. Traveled with family to the Philippines for a granddaughter's ocean-side wedding. She also visited her first-cousin (for the first time) Lillemor Lonnkvist in Oslo, Norway, for her 90th birthday and met Lillemor's children and grandchildren, and a second cousin, Kjell Magne and Nena Nedler Nilsen and family in Sykkylven, Norway.

Esther is survived by her children, Glenda (Ralph) Arnold of Cary, Ill.; Dana (Steve) Orr of Kansas City, Kansas; son, George Lamon of Elmwood; grandchildren, Kristine (Dave) Alf of Eau Claire, and Trisha (Jim) Rush of Colorado Springs, Colo., Liv Arnold (Nicholas) Grimm of Des Plaines, Ill., Inga Terina Arnold of Sycamore, Ill., Katrina (Michael) Kleemann of Wauconda, Osa (Fernando) Relacion of Palatine, Ill., Kelly (Paul) Moore of Palm City, Fla., Stephany (Neal) Gagen of Mission Hills, Kansas, Tracy (Rev. Dave) Livingston of Lenexa, Kansas, Hilary Lamon of Naperville, Ill., Holly Gokey of Hudson; a daughter-in-law, and Nancy Lamon of Spring Valley; great-grandchildren include, Shawn Schuyler and Justin Alf, both of Eau Claire, Margaux and Whittaker Grimm of Des Plaines, Ill., Madelyn, Elizabeth and Michael Kleemann of Wauconda, Isabella and Aaron Relacion of Palatine, Ill., Emily, Hannah and Olive Moore of Palm City, Fla., Mary Rose and John Paul Gagen of Mission Hills, Kansas, and Sophia and Abigail Livingston of Lenexa, Kansas; and great-great-granddaughter, Hailey Alf of Eau Claire. Also survived by brothers, Glenn (Dorothy) Nelson and John (Vera) Nelson of Elmwood; and many nieces and nephews; first cousins, Phyllis Lightcap of Talking Rock, Ga., and Lillemor Lonnkvist of Oslo, Norway.

Esther was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur; daughter, Roxanne Phillips-Davis; father, Gustave; mother, Inga Terina; and step-mother, Marie; sister and brother-in-law, Ruth and Richard Swanson; and brother and sister-in-law, Galen and Muriel (Anderson) Nelson.

Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Saturday Aug. 9, at the Elmwood United Methodist Church, rural Elmwood. Burial will be in the Poplar Hill Cemetery-Rock Elm. Friends may call one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday.

In lieu of flowers, we would appreciate contributions in memory of Esther to the American Lutheran Home in Menomonie, Wisconsin, and the St. Croix Hospice in Oakdale, Minnesota, and the Elmwood United Methodist Church in Elmwood, Wisconsin.
