Eugene Harold Manfred, 72
Eugene Harold Manfred, age 72, of Red Wing, died on Wednesday, May 6, 2009, at his home.
Gene was born on April 20, 1937, in Red Wing, the son of Earl and Helen (Froisland) Manfred. Gene grew up in the Ellsworth area and graduated from Ellsworth High School. He worked as a deputy for the Pierce County Sheriff's Office, Ralston Purina in Hager City, and Lee Lines in Red Wing. Gene was united in marriage to Kathy Klecker on May 18, 1963, at St. Francis Catholic Church in Ellsworth. The couple moved to Red Wing shortly after getting married. Gene owned and operated Manfred Tours for 21 years. He enjoyed collecting Caterpillar Toys and was a member of several Toy Collector Associations. Gene enjoyed spending time with his family and grandkids.
Gene is survived by his wife Kathy; two daughters, Patty Manfred of Red Wing and Sara (Tim) Niebur of Miesville; three grandchildren, Hayden, Sydney, and Addison; brother Kenny (Carolyn) Manfred of Ellsworth; and special pets Fluffy, Phoebe, Gracie, and Miss Kitty.
He was preceded in death by his parents and infant brother.
Mass of Resurrection was at 11 a.m. on Friday, May 8, at the Church of St. Joseph in Red Wing with Father Thomas M. Kommers presiding. Visitation was held from 5-8 p.m. on Thursday, May 7, at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson - Mahn Chapel, and also one hour prior to the Mass at the church on Friday. Pallbearers were Howard Burfeind, Craig Rother, Art Klecker, Donnie Klecker, Gerry Klecker, Mark Olson, and Gary Wandmacher.
