Favre needs a few more weeks to decide
Here we go again. Green Bay Packers quarterback Brett Favre says he'll need a few more weeks to decide if he'll retire, or return for his 18th NFL season.
Favre, 38, was asked about it Wednesday at the Super Bowl near Phoenix, when he accepted the FedEx Air Award as the quarterback of the year in fan voting.
Last year, Favre announced his return 33 days after Green Bay's final game. It's been 11 days since the Pack lost the NFC Championship Game to the New York Giants.
Packers' coach Mike McCarthy also addressed the subject Wednesday, when he accepted the Motorola coach of the year award in another fan vote.
McCarthy said Favre has no issues that would affect his ability to contribute in 2008.
And for now, at least, that includes the cold weather in which Favre struggled twice last season.
McCarthy says he hasn't had the time yet to really judge Favre's performance in the NFC title game, played in a 24 below zero wind chill.
The coach also said there were no snags in the current talks about extending his contract which has a year to go. He expects the deal to be finished within a week.
