Fesenmaier, 38-10 overall, defeated Ruben Hill (34-12) of Kenosha Christian Life by a 3-1 score in the prelim round in Division 3 at 170 pounds. He was able to get his takedown in second period and stayed on control of the match throughout. He will face Lancaster's Ethan Soderstrom (20-3) in the quarterfinals, which begin at 11:15 a.m. this morning.

Fesenmaier's win was the first for Pierce County's wrestling contingent during the Division 2/3 prelims that evening.

Unfortunately for Redbirds, Fesenmaier's teammate Trent Miller won't be joining the party. He was eliminated in the prelims by Weston/Ithaca's Mason McCauley (40-7) by a 7-5 decision at 160. Miller (34-12) scored a reversal in the third period to come within a point at 6-5 but couldn't turn McCauley over for back points and then gave up the escape late in the match.

The quarterfinal round card is set for SV/Elmwood with Cruze Hurlburt (41-4) facing Oconto's Elton Kelsey (37-4) at 120; Tyler Berg (41-4) taking on Alex Heiden of Stratford (39-5) at 126; Zach Newton (38-7) vs. Trevor Seewald (41-2) of Coleman; Jed Schlegel (37-5) vs. Trenton Cornell (42-2) of Lancaster, Fesenmaier vs. Soderstrom at 170 and Ethan Hofacker (41-3) taking on Random Lake's Nick Klein (38-10) at 195.

Both Newton and Hofacker's matches could be sneak previews of poential match-ups in next week's state team tournament.

Winners this morning will wrestle in the semifinals this evening while those beaten will wrestle in the consolation round this afternoon to determine if they will place in the state meet.
