First place showdown not to be between Prescott and Ellsworth girls hoops
Both Ellsworth and Prescott girls basketball teams lost their Middle Border Conference games Tuesday, knocking both teams out of a tie for first place before Thursday's match-up between the two Pierce County schools in Ellsworth.
The Panthers lost an exciting 83-77 contest at Osceola in overtime while Prescott fell to Durand 39-34. EHS' loss snapped a three-game winning streak.
The Panthers rallied from down five to tie Tuesday's game and force overtime; however, Osceola outscored the visitors 15-9 in the extra session.
Paige Garriga and Madison Johnson combined to score 56 of Osceola's 83 points.
Ellsworth's Shannon Campbell had a big night of her own in Osceola. She scored a game-high 32 points. Taylor Murphy tallied 15 points and Courtney Stoesz chipped in with 10.
Meanwhile, Durand outscored the home-team Cardinals 18-11 in the fourth quarter to win by five.
Alyssa Krings had 20 points to lead PHS but no one else for the team scored more than six points.
Ellsworth has a 6-6 overall record and is 3-2 in the MBC while Prescott is 9-4 overall and also 3-2 in the conference. Somerset now leads the league at 4-1 overall after winning Monday 55-45 over Baldwin-Woodville while Durand is 3-1.
Thursday's game tip's off at 7:30 p.m.
