Five staff proposals okayed by Ellsworth School Board
Ellsworth Wisconsin 126 S. Chestnut St. 54011

Five staff proposals at an estimated total cost of $250,000 were approved by the Ellsworth School Board Monday.

The five are: director of teaching and learning, physical education department reduction, computer/network technician, library media/technology integration specialist and library/media center assistant. All were approved unanimously by the board, except for director of teaching and learning, which got the nod on a five-to-one vote (Board Member Doug Peterson was absent).

Board Member Kurt Buckner, who voted against, raised a concern this is a position that had been full-time in the past, then was reduced as part of a cost-cutting measure and is now being returned to full-time.

Superintendent Barry Cain responded at the time it was reduced, certain duties previously handled by the position were assigned to others. Since that time, the "landscape" for administrators in Wisconsin has changed considerably, Cain said. For example, the state now has expectations about responsibilities related to the common core standards.

He assured the local board school officials across the state are having similar conversations about this increased work load issue. It's something not created here, but the local district will have to adapt to it, he said.
