Forensic team ends season with medals
Ellsworth Wisconsin 126 S. Chestnut St. 54011

The 2008 Elmwood forensics team consisted of nine members, and they all had a very successful season, said Coach Heather Pederson.

The team began the season with many practice sessions and participated in the Baldwin-Woodville High School Forensics Invitational.

The first qualifying meet was the sub-district meet, which was hosted by Mondovi. Out of three rounds of performance, students needed to earn a minimum of two "16's" out of a total of 25. All nine team members exceeded this requirement and advanced to the district meet, which was held at Hudson High School.

At the district meet, the level of competition was much more challenging and team members needed to earn a minimum of two "20" scores out of three rounds of competition.

Once again, the team did an outstanding job, said Pederson. Seven team members earned the right to advance to the state forensics competition, which was held at UW-Madison April 18.

"All team members put forth a lot of effort and hard work this season," said Pederson.

The state results are as follows: Taylor Bechel, Bronze Medal, score of 21 in 4-minute speaking; Mary Laflex, Bronze Medal, score of 20 in poetry; Hannah Rawson, Bronze Medal, score of 21 in poetry; Brooke Gasteyer, Bronze Medal, score of 21 in prose; Katie Bowell, Katye Todd and Melody Gaede, Silver Medals, score of 23 in play acting.
