Former Ellsworth police chief passes away

Former Ellsworth Police Chief Ron Miller passed away in the early morning hours Tuesday at Pepin Manor. He was 77.  

Miller put in over 40 years in law enforcement in Pierce County, as he was police chief in Spring Valley, chief deputy for the Pierce County Sheriff's Department and ended his career as police chief in Ellsworth in 1999. Miller's successor, Greg Place, retired earlier this month.

Miller and wife Jean, also owned and operated the Little Grand Cafe and Millers Cafe during the 1970s. He also played a role in creating the Ellsworth Ambulance Service.  He is survived by Jean, four children, six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. 

Visitation will be held this Friday (June 21) from 4-7 p.m. at St. Francis Catholic Church in Ellsworth, with the funeral following. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
