Former Kiel teacher now looking at a dozen felony charges
MANITOWOC - A dozen felony charges were filed yesterday accusing a former Kiel (keel) High School teacher of inappropriate relationships with at least five female students.
Thirty-two-year-old Ryan Zellner of Allouez is due in Manitowoc County Circuit Court a week from tomorrow. He resigned as a social studies teacher and girls' basketball coach at Kiel after he was arrested just over a week ago.
Prosecutors said he fondled one girl, and asked for pictures showing her in a number of sexual positions. Other allegations involved phone sex, exchanging nude photos, and inappropriate comments.
The charges include child sexual assault and child enticement. Prosecutors said Zellner asked the girls to delete his text messages to avoid "getting into trouble" - and he asked that they memorize his cell phone number instead of keeping it in their phones.
District Attorney Mark Rohrer says he's still investigating to determine if there were other victims. A regional task force has been trying to find out if Zellner was involved with girls in other school districts. Green Bay Police are re-investigating a 2006 incident involving a student at Southwest High School, where he used to teach. He was supposed to appear in court yesterday, but his attorney asked for a combined initial appearance and preliminary hearing next Wednesday.
