Former RF man put on probation for sexual assault of a child
A former River Falls man was sentenced to five years’ probation Monday in Pierce County Circuit Court for first degree sexual assault of a child.
As a probation condition, Brian J. Dufrene, 48, will also have to spend a year in jail. Dufrene pleaded guilty to the Class B felony in January.
Dufrene was charged in January 2013 after a family member notified Pierce County law enforcement about the alleged assault. She told authorities Dufrene made the then-eight-year-old victim touch one of his male body parts.
A different family member told law enforcement he confronted Dufrene about the charge and Dufrene admitted to doing some pretty inappropriate things with the victim, but never actually said what.
Less than two weeks later, Pierce County investigators interviewed the victim. The victim described the whole incident, including layout and the fact that wasn’t the first time an alleged assault happened. She also told investigators she had no idea why Dufrene did this.
Monday’s hour-long hearing was emotion-filled on both sides of the aisle.
The victim’s parents addressed the court before the sentence was handed down and didn’t hold punches.
Referencing the pre-sentence investigation, which is what the sentenced ended up being, the victim’s father said, “We want more. He hasn’t been arrested, incarcerated or had to register as a sex offender. He needs to pay. We don’t want him on huber.
