Former Sen. Zien hospitalized in motorcycle crash
DAYTONA, Fla. - Former state Senator Dave Zien is hospitalized in Florida, after he broke a hip and lost part of his left leg in a motorcycle crash.
The 59-year-old Eau Claire area man was in Florida for the Daytona Beach Bike Week, when he got hurt early yesterday on Interstate 10. Zien was in the intensive care unit of the Tallahassee Memorial Medical Center at last word. According to authorities, an SUV in front of Zien tried to change lanes. But it lost control and fell on its side. And Zien's motorcycle could not avoid hitting the SUV.
Zien, a Republican, was a champion of motorcycle rights during his 13 years in the Senate. He rode over a million miles on a 1991 Harley-Davidson Sport Glide bike - and he's a member of the Motorcycle Hall of Fame.
