Former Spring Valley police chief dies
SPRING VALLEY--Former Spring Valley Police Chief Jim “Furgy” Furuglyas died Friday at the University of Minnesota Hospital-Fairview, Minneapolis. He was 69.
In 1979, Furuglyas took a job as a police officer in Spring Valley and worked there until his retirement. He eventually served as chief of police. He had attended the police academy in Racine and worked for Racine County for about five years previously.
The Racine native also worked as a machinist for a while there after graduating from Horlick High School in 1962.
Memorial Funeral was to be held Tuesday of this week at Gilman Lutheran Church, Spring Valley.
