Forss named new maintenance supervisor
The Pierce County Maintenance Department underwent a significant overhaul Tuesday.
First, during the finance and personnel committee meeting, Administrative Coordinator JoAnn Miller announced, while in consultation with Highway Commissioner Chad Johnson, the two decided to merge the maintenance functions at the highway department with the rest of Pierce County facilities.
“Chad and I believe this action would provide greater efficiency for both departments while maintaining the county’s physical plant,” Miller said. She explained the department would now consist of one maintenance supervisor with two maintenance technicians, two custodial positions and a fair groundskeeper.
The committee then approved the amended position descriptions for the supervisor and the maintenance technician.
The county board then confirmed Jerry Forss as the new supervisor during its regular meeting. Forss, who has been with the county since 1999, worked maintenance at highway before being promoted.
After initially not giving a date for when the changes would occur, Miller said Friday Forss would begin his new job duties Monday.
“Jerry was chosen because of his skills and experience with all county facilities,” Miller said. His exact salary was not known, as the county is going through a reclassification study for all employees.
As for Scott Walker, the previous maintenance supervisor, it was stated in the summary he will be filling the new maintenance technician position.
