Four county girls basketball teams eliminated from regionals
Four Pierce County prep girls basketball teams has their respective seasons come to an end Tuesday evening as they were eliminated in first round games in WIAA regional tournament play.
Ellsworth, the No. 12 seed in its semi-sectional bracket, lost a Division 3 contest at No. 5 St. Croix Falls, 17-6 overall, 64-47.
No. 10 seed Spring Valley fell to No. 7 seeded Augusta 55-41 at Augusta (14-9) in Division 4. The Cardinals fell further and further behind the home team as they were unable to score more than 10 points per quarter until the fourth, when it became too late for a rally. Emily Boisen was Valley's lone player scoring in double figures with 15 points.
In Division 5, Elmwood, the eighth seed in its regional tournament bracket lost to No. 1 seed Eleva-Strum (15-8) 50-26 at Central. The Raiders were held to just five points in the first half and trailed 21-5 at halftime. Shelby Hall scored nine points for the Raiders. Shelby Hall led EHS in scoring with nine points.
Defending regional champion Plum City lost a close, first round contest at Alma Center Lincoln (12-9) 46-44. The Blue Devils were the sixth seed and Lincoln was seeded No. 3.
Plum City concludes its regular season at 6-15 overall, Spring Valley, 6-16, Ellsworth 2-20 and Elmwood 1-21 overall.
