Frances Benedict, 97
Frances Lucille (Wirth) Benedict, 97, of River Falls, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 21, at the Lutheran Home.
She was born on Jan. 4, 1916, to George and Ethel (Dravis) Wirth in River Falls, Wis. She was the eldest of three children. She attended the Angel Hill School and graduated from River Falls High School.
On Nov. 16, 1938, she married Clifton Lemoyne Benedict. Her husband of 57 years, he passed away in 1996. She was a homemaker, and she and Clif farmed just outside of River Falls throughout their lifetime. She was a hard worker, gardening, canning, cooking, and she and Clif worked side by side on the farm.
Frances was a member of South Fork Ladies Aid and was a leader of the Cloverleaf 4-H Club for over 35 years. She had a strong faith and was actively involved in the mission of Ezekiel Lutheran Church. She was the head of Ezekiel's funeral committee for many years and a member of the Altar Guild. She enjoyed serving others.
She loved children and, if there was a baby near, she would soon be holding it. She dedicated a great deal of her life as a 4-H leader, helping young people learn leadership skills, responsibility, and life skills. She taught by example. Her family was the most important part of her life. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and was very proud of her family.
Frances was preceded in death by her parents; husband Clif; her brother, Marvin Wirth; and her sister, Marie Armbruster.
She is survived by her sons, Clifton (Kathleen) Benedict of Hudson and DeWayne (Gerda) Benedict of River Falls, and her daughter, Jean (Paul) Michaelson of Livermore, Colo.; grandchildren Wylie (Robin) Benedict and Steve (Dana) Benedict, Diana (Jeff) Sedlacek, Paula (Jeff) Feyereisen, Mike (Debbie) Benedict and Corey (Amy) Benedict; great-grandchildren: Anna, Ava, and Noah Sedlacek; Josie and Hank Hopkins; Mitchell and Adam Feyereisen; and Wade, Loral, Lauren, Will, Todd, and Bo Benedict; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 26, at Ezekiel Lutheran Church in River Falls. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery. Memorials may be given to Ezekiel Lutheran Church or Pierce County 4-H.
