Freighter's crew rescued after fumes filled ship on Great Lakes
BUFFALO - Crew members on a freighter heading from Milwaukee to Montreal had to be rescued after gas fumes filled their ship.
WTMJ Radio reports this morning that the 21-member crew had dropped off grain in Milwaukee - and they were heading northeast when gasoline fumes entered the ventilation system.
Sixteen crew members had to be rescued a few miles off shore from Buffalo They suffered from diarrhea, vomiting, and headaches - and they were treated at Buffalo hospitals. The captain was among the five who stayed on board.
