Gloomy, rainy Memorial Day weekend for much of the state
Don't be surprised if your fellow Wisconsinites appear water-logged after trying to enjoy the Memorial Day Weekend. It rained all three days in La Crosse for only the fourth time on record.
The National Weather Service said the only other years it rained throughout the Memorial Day period was in 1881, 1919, and 1978. La Crosse also had its ninth-coldest May holiday weekend in recorded history. The average temperature was 56 degrees, the coolest since 2001.
There's a chance for more rain every day this week, as a low-pressure system slowly moves eastward from the Great Plains. The best chances for showers and thunderstorms are on Thursday and Friday. A warm-up is expected tomorrow, with highs jumping to the 80's in the southern part of Wisconsin. It could be slightly cooler from Thursday through Saturday, with highs in the 60's-and-70's in the forecast for each day.
