Golden Gophers win Big Ten hockey debut over Badgers 4-1
MINNEAPOLIS - The No. 1 ranked University of Minnesota men's hockey team topped Wisconsin 4-1 Friday to win the first official Big Ten Conference game in front of 9,948 fans at Mariucci Arena.
UW scored first on Joseph LaBate's goal in the first period but MInnesota quickly put two goals on the scoreboard from Mike Reilly and Seth Ambroz to take a 2-1 lead after the first peirod. Connor Reilly scored in the third to put the U up 3-1 and Ambroz added an empty-net goal late in the period.
Minnesota outshot Wisconsin 45-25. UW goalie Landon Peterson made 41 saves while winning goalie Adam Wilcox made 24.
Minnesota improves to 10-2-1 while No. 12 Wisconsin drops 4-4-1. The Big Ten opening series for both clubs concludes this evening starting at 5 p.m. at Mariucci Arena.
