Among the $500 scholarships awarded were one to Jocelyn Gorham, Beldenville. Gorham is working toward a registered nursing degree at Wisconsin Indianhead Technical College.

"We know that the cost of education can be a barrier, especially for students who start their schooling later in life," said Heather Logelin, executive director of the foundation. "They often have families to support and other significant financial obligations. The recipients of these most recent scholarships are all very committed to providing high-quality health care in Western Wisconsin. We are proud to be helping them pursue their dreams, and hope our scholarship program encourages more people from our region to consider careers in health care."

The goal of the foundation's Health Careers Scholarship Program for Non-Traditional Students is to increase the number of health care providers practicing in the region served by the hospital. In selecting award recipients, preference is given to applicants with a demonstrated commitment to practice in the region. Other factors favorably influencing selection include: a work history in a hospital, clinic or other medical setting; demonstrated financial need; and demonstrated potential for academic success.

The deadline for students interested in applying for scholarships for fall semester is Saturday, April 30. Guidelines and application materials are available online at www.riverfallsareahospital.com/rfahfoundation.
