Griffin named state girls' player of the year
Nicole Griffin of Milwaukee Vincent has been named the A-P girls' state high school basketball player of the year. Lisa Immel of Oostburg is the coach-of-the-year.
The 6-6 Griffin helped Milwaukee Vincent win three state Division One titles - and they fell just short of a fourth last weekend. She averaged 18 points, nine rebounds, and three-and-a-half blocked shots a game this year. And she'll play her college basketball at Oklahoma.
Immel led Oostburg to second-place in this year's Division Three state finals. She kept coaching after learning on February first that she had the cancerous Hodgkins' lymphoma. She said the team kept her going after being exhausted from her chemo-therapy.
