Gun safety instructor discharges firearm during class
STILLWATER -- The instructor of a firearm safety class sponsored by the Department of Natural Resources accidentally discharged a weapon before a class in Stillwater last week.
Eight people were in the room at the time; the bullet ended up in a wall, and nobody was hurt.
Stillwater police say the 76-year-old Cottage Grove man was "very apologetic ... for the foolish mistake" he made. DNR officials are investigating, and while the case was forwarded to the Stillwater city attorney for possible charges, Dave Magnuson declined to prosecute the case. Whether the instructor will continue to teach has not yet been determined.
