Gunderson to step down as Spring Valley softball coach

SPRING VALLEY - Citing time commitments Earl Gunderson, who had been Spring Valley High School's head softball coach for the past nine seasons, has decided to step down as head coach before the 2011 season.

"We've had a great staff and great and its led to a great nine years," Gunderson said.

Gunderson became head coach in 2002 and compiled a 111-63 overall record and 76-47 in the Dunn-St. Croix Conference. He led Spring Valley to conference titles in 2006 and 2008 and a regional championship in 2008. His best team was the 2008 squad that went 21-1, its only loss coming sectional semifinals that season to Grantsburg.

The Spring Valley School Board will hire a new coach, along with coaches for baseball and boys' golf at its monthly school board meeting Monday.
