Haack named new Spring Valley Superintendent
SPRING VALLEY--In looking to make his next career move, Dr. Don Haack decided bigger wasn’t necessarily better.
“I was looking for something between the Twin Cities and Eau Claire area,” the Spooner superintendent said. “It is a beautiful area of the state and, with a daughter going to school in the Twin Cities, it’s in the middle of where we want to be.”
He found it in Spring Valley, as the school board named him last week as the next superintendent. He will start July 1, succeeding the retiring David Wellington.
“It is a nice situation to be in,” he said of his future employer. “It’s a nice district with good people. They have good teachers, test scores and the school report cards are outstanding. “
Haack added his objective in Spring Valley will be to make sure the district doesn’t fall behind and keeps moving forward.
The Lawrence, Kan., native got into education thanks to his father, who was a professor at the University of Kansas. Haack went on to earn his degree from Kansas in math, and then went on to earn his Masters and Doctorate in educational leadership and administration.
Haack started out as a math teacher, and taught in Kansas, Wisconsin and Missouri before making the switch to administration 23 years ago. Seventeen of those years have been in Spooner, where he was the high school principal before being promoted to superintendent 14 years ago.
