HASTINGS, Minn. -- A Hampton man has pleaded guilty to a felony charge in a crash that killed a Cannon Falls man last year.
Keri James Gesme, 27, pleaded guilty Monday to one charge of criminal vehicular homicide in the crash, which killed Dennis Paul Underwood, 27, of Cannon Falls. Two other charges will be dismissed at sentencing, which is scheduled for Feb. 18.
The crash occurred Nov. 8, 2012, on Highway 50 just outside New Trier.
Officers and medics found a truck lying on its driver’s side in the yard of a residence. Underwood was found dead, and Gesme was found lying about 75 feet from where the truck landed.
A blood sample taken from Gesme after the crash indicated a blood-alcohol concentration of 0.20, more than twice the threshold for drunken driving. A Minnesota State Patrol reconstruction revealed that Gesme was the driver and was driving up to 106 mph when the truck went airborne.
As part of Monday’s ruling, Judge Karen Asphaug ordered a psychological evaluation of Gesme.
