Harsdorf statement: Encouraged by action on St. Croix River crossing
I am pleased that S. 1134, federal legislation that clears the way for the construction of a new St. Croix River Crossing, was approved by the U.S. Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee on a strong bipartisan 22-2 vote. I commend Minnesota U.S. Senators Amy Klobuchar and Al Franken for their leadership on this bill. I am further encouraged to hear of U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood's support for the St. Croix River Crossing project and his plans to work with U.S. Interior Secretary Ken Salazar to move this project forward.
A new St. Croix River Crossing is critical to ensure the safety of traveling motorists, address environmental impacts and maintain the timely delivery of emergency services. With the continued support of citizens as well as elected state and federal officials from Wisconsin and Minnesota and Secretary LaHood, I am optimistic that this critical project will move forward. S. 1134 is now ready for floor action in the U.S. Senate. Similar legislation introduced by U.S. Representative Michele Bachmann, H.R. 850, is pending before the U.S. House of Representatives.
