Hastings police arrests two on DWI charges after 'Chinese fire drill'
HASTINGS, Minn. -- Two people in the same vehicle were arrested on drunken driving charges after a “Chinese fire drill” at a stop light, Hastings police said.
On Sept. 22, an officer on patrol noticed a vehicle stop at a light on Vermillion Street and then watched as the two occupants got out and swapped places in the vehicle, backing up traffic behind them.
The officer followed the vehicle and stopped it at County Road 46 and Walnut Street. After an investigation, officers conducted field sobriety tests on both occupants, police said.
The male driver had a blood-alcohol content of 0.28, and the female passenger had a blood-alcohol content of 0.21, police said. The threshold for drunken driving in Minnesota is 0.08.
