Heather McCarthy joins Herald staff
Heather McCarthy became a familiar face to the residents of Ellsworth when she spent about a year as the manager of the Holiday Station Store here.
After a few months off, her face will become familiar again at the Pierce County Herald office. McCarthy is the Herald's administrative assistant, replacing Sue Humphrey, who took a job in the Twin Cities.
"The hours are good, the people are great, and I only live a few blocks away," McCarthy said of her new job.
As the administrative assistant, she will split her time between working with the news and advertising departments along with customer service and the paper's legal publications. McCarthy will serve as the paper's notary public in processing affidavits for legal notices.
The biggest challenge for her so far, she said, is getting used to deadlines and learning where things go.
McCarthy graduated from Woodbury High School and came to Ellsworth in 1998 after meeting her future husband Mike. The two married in 2001 and are the parents of Cody, age 14, and MacKenzie, 8. Mike works for Cenex, hauling fuel to homes and farms.
McCarthy started at Holiday as a cashier, filling a position for a friend. She lasted in that role for a year before she was asked to manage the River Falls south Holiday. That lasted about a year, when she re-joined the Ellsworth Holiday as its manager in January 2007.
McCarthy was manager for about a year before leaving.
"The big reason I left Holiday were the hours," she said. "I didn't want be tied down to the store."
In her free time she enjoys horses, camping and attending her children's sporting events.
