Jack Hines, local longtime auctioneer, had a large plaque presented to him at the Washington County (Minn.) Livestock Auction, which was held at their annual fair in Lake Elmo, Minn., recently commemorating 40 years of donating his services. Also, a huge cake with the inscription “Thanks Jack for 40 years” was part of the lunch served to all present in his honor. Hines started the Pierce County Livestock 4-H Auction and FFA Auction 38 years ago, which benefit many young people toward furthering their education. In 1976, Hines, along with Tom Howie, then-4-H youth agent, met with the livestock committee to initiate the event, which has been a large attraction at all Pierce County Fairs since. He has donated his services for 38 auctions, plus announced all 47 demo derbies and parades. He loves the fair! (Submitted photo)
