Hines joins ranks of retired after local career as aide
By Bill Kirk
Mary Hines didn't set out to be an educator, but ended up with that kind of a career.
Hines began her adulthood focused on raising a family. The daughter of Leo and Elsie Schmidt said Thursday she was one of 10 while growing up. Later, she became mom to six children of her own.
"I didn't think of education when I decided to get an outside job," she said, noting she waited until all of her kids were in school. She's retiring from the Ellsworth School District at the end of this term after spending 23 years as a special education aide.
