History center's summer schedule told
Ellsworth Wisconsin 126 S. Chestnut St. 54011

BAY CITY--Over the past 10 years or so, the River Bluffs History Center in Bay City has held two-day open houses monthly during May, June, July, August and September.

Each year, a display is set up, generally focusing on specific areas of county history.

In 2010, the emphasis is on agriculture-related photos and artifacts due to the fact the county is sponsoring Farm Technology Days, July 20,21,22.

Over 20 hours has been spent this year setting up the display. The Pierce County Historical Association (PCHA) sponsored a barn photo contest in 2009-2010. Many of those pictures are available for viewing.

Another subject of attention is the creamery industry in the county. Many did exist, and some are represented in old photos and early records ledgers that have been copied or typed and placed in notebooks visitors can handle.

However, many photos are still missing that probably do exist but have yet to be added to the PCHA's extensive photo collection. If having photos of the old creameries, please donate them.

Reproduced copies from very early 1800's or so, publications and such are on hand to see. Objects, too, are scattered around the building. Seven glass cases are filled with many small farm and other related items.

On the lower level of the center, there are also items for visitors to see.

Plus the 16' x 24" authentic Conlin log cabin is on site--furnished as authentically as possible.

If one takes an appropriate amount of time to view things, one or two hours can be spent here.

Open house dates for the summer are: June 12 and 13; July 10 and 11; Aug. 7 and 8; Sept. 11 and 12. The center is open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.. on Saturdays and from 1 to 4 p.m. on Sundays during the above dates. Watch for signs on the main highway.

On Monday, Oct. 4, the Fall Open House will be held. Speakers will give programs, there will be live music and the quilt raffle winner's name will be drawn, along with other prizes.

Pioneer Day will be Saturday, June 26, and should be put on everybody's calendar. It is a day of family-centered activities great for all ages. Many demonstrations of history-related skills are available to be viewed, with lunch available, as well as a bake sale and such. This day is from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., come rain or shine. Live music and games. New things/demonstrations are added annually.

Please, come visit the center. Pierce County has a valuable heritage. The PCHA also mans the Freier School during the county fair in August.

With things to donate, either bring them to the Open Houses or to the PCHA office in Ellsworth, lower level of the village hall. Hours are Mondays and Thursdays from 1 to 4 p.m. and Friday from 1 to 5 p.m.
