MADISON - Hudson's Nick Larson made it through to the semifinals of the WIAA State Individual Wrestling Tournament Thursday. But two other Hudson wrestlers did not.

Gordon Johnson lost 3-0 at 119 to Franklin's Roman Stiff and Tanner Owens was beaten 14-8 by Jake Maechtle of Port Washington at 135.

The score of Owens' match was tied 3-3 in the second when Maechtle blocked a takedown attempt and landed on Owens for four point nearfall to go with the takedown points.

Larson edged Milwaukee Marquette's Jonathan Bleach 9-7 in the quarterfinals. Larson broke a 4-4 tie early in the second period with a four-point takedown and nearfall and held on to win.

"He gave me an opening with the up and under. In fact he gave it several times which is rare at this level so I had to take it," Larson said.

Larson won his first match 16-8 over West Allis Central's Brian Smith. Larson recorded eight takedowns in the match.

"It was a good warm-up match and I was happy I was able to score on my feet," Larson said.

Larson will take on Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln's Zak Benitz (42-5) in the semifinals Friday evening at 7:00 p.m.
