Irene Hilden, 94
Irene D. Hilden, age 94, of Ellsworth, Wis., died Friday, Jan. 24,at the Kinnic Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, River Falls, Wis.
Irene was born on Nov. 13, 1919, in the town of Trimbelle, Pierce County, Wis., the daughter of Albert and Martha (Bengston) Johnson. She grew up in rural Ellsworth and attended Ellsworth Schools. Irene married Marcus Hilden on Oct. 22, 1938, at the Bethel Mission Covenant parsonage. She worked for many years at the Red Wing Shoe Company, retiring in 1984.
Irene was an active member of the Bethel Covenant Church. She volunteered at the Ellsworth Care Center and made quilts for the Union Gospel Mission in St. Paul. Most of all, Irene loved to entertain in her home and socialize with her family and many friends.
Preceding Irene in death was her husband, Marcus, in 2008; a grandson, Travis Boyd; parents; four brothers; and two sisters.
Irene is survived by her two daughters, Beverly (Don) Melstrom, Durand, Wis., and Carole (Gary) Kruger, River Falls, Wis. She is further survived by seven grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; two sisters in-law; nieces; nephews; and other relatives and friends.
Services for Irene will be at 2 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 1, at Bethel Covenant Church, Ellsworth. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the funeral on Saturday.
Memorials are preferred to the Bethel Covenant Church, Ellsworth.
