Janice Baumgartner, 77
Janice Baumgartner, age 77, of Spring Valley, died Monday, Oct. 7, at the Spring Valley Health and Rehabilitation Center.
Janice was born Aug. 18, 1936, to Lyle and Martha (Mickelson) Roue at Fosston, Minn. She attended school at Fosston and graduated with the Class of 1953. She continued her education at St. Cloud and graduated from college. She received a teaching degree and taught at the high school level for a couple years. On Nov. 23, 1955, she married James Baumgartner at St. Cloud. After Jim finished college, they moved to Independence, Wis. and in 1964 moved to Spring Valley.
Jan was a substitute teacher at Spring Valley and had several long term positions. She also worked as Activities Director at the Spring Valley Health Care Center for 29 years. She also served as Deacon at the Congregational Church. Jan was a fabulous cook and always had something good to eat for visitors. She was a bit of a homebody and enjoyed taking care of her home and family.
Preceding her in death were her father; and husband Jim.
Survivors include 3 daughters and 2 sons: Ellen (Paul) Simms of Hampton, New Hampshire, Lyle Baumgartner of Hammond, David (Michelle) Baumgartner of Tomahawk, Wis., Ann (James) Johnson of Elk River, Minn., and Eve Mellum of Apple Valley, Minn.; sisters Julie McDonald, and Debra (Kevin) Ryan; brothers David Roue, and Joel Roue; many other relatives and friends.
Visitation was from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 10, service was at 7 p.m. at the Congregational Church in Spring Valley.
