Joan Marie DeGross, 70
Joan Marie DeGross, age 70, of Ellsworth, died Monday, Nov. 4, at her home.
Joan was born on Feb. 14, 1943, in Red Wing, Minn., the daughter of Oliver and Ruth (Johnson) Klein.
She was a 1961 graduate of Ellsworth High School. Joan married Larry DeGross on July 28, 1962, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in El Paso, Wis.
Joan was a loving mom and grandmother. She wasn't afraid of a challenge and worked hard to establish and make successes of the family businesses, from the Country Gentleman Clothing Store, L & J Ds Tavern and the Copper Kettle Restaurants.
Joan enjoyed golfing, playing scrabble and being with her family. Nothing made her happier than her grandchildren. Her motto for the kids was - "Why say no, when you can say yes?"
Trips to Minong with the family were the highlight of recent summers.
Joan is survived by her husband Larry of Ellsworth; sons: Tony DeGross, St. Paul, Minn., Kelly (Alicia) DeGross, Ellsworth, Wis., and Scott (Kelly) DeGross, Hammond, Wis.; eight grandchildren: Luke, Tanner, Derek, Brady, Briana, Kyle, Taylor, and Brandon DeGross; three sisters and two brothers: Barbara (Gary) Herum, Patricia Wasserman, Carol (Mike) Ehlert, Jeffrey (Cindy) Klein, and Donald (Kathy) Klein.
Preceding her in death were her parents; and her brothers Wally, and Dick.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 11, at St. Francis Catholic Church, Ellsworth. Visitation will be from 3 p.m. until time of services at 7 p.m. Burial will be at 3:30 p.m. in the St. Francis Cemetery on Tuesday.
