Dr. Eugene Jonas retired last week after serving 35 years on the Pierce County Traffic Safety Commission.
Commissions are set up in each Wisconsin county to encourage and foster traffic safety activity. Representatives from law enforcement, highway department, Wisconsin Department of Transportation and State Patrol, education, medicine, corporate law, emergency government and the county board are appointed to the commission.
Members of the commission conduct traffic safety assessments and field reviews. They also recommend specific traffic safety improvements to local and state traffic engineers, along with lobby for improved safety technology to be used throughout the state. Jonas' spot on the commission was taken by Dr. Christopher Tashjian.
