St. Croix County Judge Eric J. Lundell sentenced Kaufhold to 90 days in jail, five years probation and ordered him to pay $16,184.41 restitution. Kaufhold was also ordered to maintain absolute sobriety and his driver's license was revoked for two years.

Kathleen L. Fredrickson, 47, New Richmond, was hit by a snowmobile driven by Kaufhold about 8 p.m. March 13, 2006, on CTH C near 114th Street in the Town of Star Prairie in St. Croix County.

The St. Croix County Sheriff's report of the incident said Fredrickson was struck from behind and thrown about 30 feet. She suffered two broken legs and was airlifted to Regions Hospital in St. Paul.

Fredrickson and her husband were walking west on CTH C when the accident occurred.

Kaufhold told a deputy he was traveling about 40 mph and thought he hit a deer or a sign, the criminal complaint said.
