Kenseth's top 10 finish at Watkins Glen still pushes him down in Spring Cup standings
WATKINS GLEN, N.Y. - Matt Kenseth of Cambridge placed eighth at yesterday's Finger Lakes-355. But despite the strong showing, Kenseth dropped from second place to third in the Sprint Cup standings which tightened up considerably.
Jimmie Johnson took over the season points' lead with 777, after he placed sixth on the Watkins Glen road course. Greg Biffle moved into second just one point back, after he took sixth yesterday. And Kenseth is now third, just two points off the lead at 775. Dale Earnhardt Jr., who held the Sprint Cup lead for three weeks, fell to fourth after he placed 28th at Watkins Glen. Paul Menard of Eau Claire placed 12th yesterday, and he remains 16th for the year. Travis Kvapil of Janesville was 24th at the Glen, and he remains 31st in the point standings.
Marcos Ambrose won the race, as he came from behind on the final lap to edge out Brad Keselowski.
