Kudos to Prescott's students

By Roger Hulne

Prescott School Superintendent

On Wednesday, May 14, Prescott students will be honored at the annual awards night.

As a community, we have reason to be very proud of the accomplishments of our students. Among the recognition will be awards for academic honors, athletic achievements, scholarships and more.

With the very generous support of our community organizations and families, local scholarship distributions will exceed $35,000! Four new scholarships were added this year, which will benefit five Prescott students. Those scholarships represent a very tangible show of support as our students move forward.

It is always impressive to see what students can accomplish in a year. Along with the academic and athletic accomplishments that will be recognized, Prescott students had many other proud moments that are worth noting:

--Both the high school choir and band had an opportunity to perform the National Anthem at major league sports venues again this year.

--The band traveled to Disney World through a selection process that has allowed them to return for many years.

--Our high school forensics team recently received the “Excellence in Speech” award at the State Festival. Only the top five percent scoring schools competing at state receive this award. This year, there were 4,548 students representing 351 school districts.

--The high school volunteer group consistently logs hundreds of service hours annually to serve the local community and beyond.

--Two Prescott Destination Imagination teams were selected to participate at national Level.

--Students were also active in other competitions, including speech contests, spelling contests, National History Day, Geography Bee, literary competition, art shows and more. Some of those students represented Prescott at state level in these events.

With the support of parents, teachers and the entire community, Prescott students experience impressive accomplishments.
