MADISON - Three Ellsworth High School wrestlers who were at the WIAA State Individual Meet for the first time advanced to Friday's quarterfinals in the Division 2 tournament.

They join the Panthers' D.J. Yarwood and Noah McLay, who had byes in the first round and also Sam Huppert, who blanked his first round opponent, Monroe's Kevin Klopfnstein by a 7-0 decision at 119 pounds. The quarterfinals are set for 11:15 a.m. Friday at the Kohl Center.

Langer had takedowns in each period against Devon Dzoiba of Winneconne to beat him 7-1 at 125. Levin Kuesel scored a late takedown in the second period vs. Jackson Fox of Wrightstown and went on to win 4-1 at 145. Hines scored a reversal with :10 seconds to go in the second period and exploded for a takedown on the whistle on the third for a 4-1 himself over Matt Sasma of Oconto Falls at 171.

Other first time Panthers who didn't make it out the prelims were Brent Stockwell at 112, Zach Reister at 140, Tanner Eggenberger at 152 and Nick Oeltjen at heavyweight.

Quarterfinal matches include Huppert against Mitch Teeters of Pewaukee (40-10) at 119. Langer takes on Mark Dessart (37-4) of Seymour at 125; D.J. Yarwood is taking on Seth Liegel of River Valley (44-4) at 130; Kusel faces Thurston Schuster of Marshall (47-5); McLay squares off against Dustin Kirsenlohr of Adams-Friendship and Hines faces Connor Hanson of Ripon (40-3).

Prescott's lone entrant in the D-2 state meet, Josh Farr, suffered a concussion when his head hit the mat after being thrown down by Kewaskum's Scoles at 103 pound. Farr defaulted from the tournament.

Spring Valley-Elmwood's Brady Webb wrestles in Friday's quarterfinals against Zach Sirny of Wild Rose (40-1).
