Langer a top 10 golfer in MBC
Ellsworth's Aubrey Langer finds herself in the top 10 of individual golfers in the Middle Border Conference.
Langer boosted herself into ninth place at the midway point of the conference season after finishing tied for fourth place in last Tuesday's MBC meet held at Somerset's Bristol Ridge Golf Course.
Langer shot a 47 and now has 17 points scored so far in league action.
First place is held by New Richmond sophomore Alex Wheeler with 41 points, a single point ahead of defending champ junior Casey Danielson of Osceola.
Danielson won her third straight MBC meet with a low score of 36 but Wheeler was right behind her shooting a 44. Wheeler leads because Danielson missed the first meet of the season at Ellsworth and the race for the league individual title could well be decided at Ellsworth Country Club where the conference meet will be held on Sept. 19 starting at 9 a.m.
Ellsworth also finds itself in fourth place in the team standings after a good day in Somerset. Joining Langer with a top 10 finishes were Panther golfers Hanna Hines, who placed eighth with a nine-hole score of 52 and Jilliane Paquet, who finished tied for 10th shooting a season-best 54. EHS shot a season low 207 to finish in fourth place behind new Richmond's 184, Osceola's 191 and Somerset's 206.
Lager, Hines and Paquet, all juniors, now all have league individual points with Hines in 15th place in the league standings, which is good for honorable mention if she can hold it or move up.
Ellsworth also had scores of 55 from Karissa Seibel and 58 from Chloe Spriggle at Somerset.
Prescott, meanwhile, continues to struggle. They shot a season high nine-hole score of 253 to finish in eighth place. Finishing above them were St. Croix Central 213, Baldwin-Woodville 222 and Amery 239. As a result PHS is in eighth place in the team standings with New Richmond on top with 39 points, Osceola 36, Somerset 26, Ellsworth and SCC 21, Baldwin-Woodville 16, Amery 14 and Prescott 9 points.
Individually all of PHS's golfers shot in the 60s at Bristol Ridge, with the lowest score coming from Megan Westerberg, 61, followed by Hannah Lebakken 62, Katie Filkins 63, Courtney Brinker 67 and Jessica DeYoung 68.
Filkins is the only Prescott golfer with individual points with two and she is tied for 19th in the standings with Ellsworth's Paquet.
The next MBC meet is Tuesday at New Richmond followed by a meet Thursday in Hammond at SCC's home course. Next Tuesday is Prescott's lone home meet of the season at Clifton Highlands beginning at 4 p.m.
