Late goal lifts Minnesota to 4-3 win over Wisconsin
MINNEAPOLIS - Seth Ambroz's goal with :26 seconds to go in the contest gave the University of Minnesota a 4-3 win over Wisconsin in front of nearly 10,000 fans at Mariucci Arena Saturday.
The No. 12 ranked Badgers led the contest 2-1 after the first period with goals from Frankie Simonelli and Nic Kerdiles but Ambroz scored a goal in the second to tie the score and Brady Skjel's goal early in the third period put the U in front 3-2. Michael Mersch toed the score again with a goal but he also had a turnover in the Badger's zone which set-up Ambroz for the winning goal.
No. 1 Minnesota once again outshot the Badgers 35-22. UW goalie Joel Rumpel made 31 saves while winning goalie Adam Wilcox made 20. Minnesota improves to 11-2-1 overall and grabs a big lead in the new Big Ten standings with six points (three points for each win). Wisconsin falls below .500 at 4-5-1.
